Volunteer Facilitators from FNS in action at North West District Meeting 2008
24 May 2008 - The District Meeting (DM) is an annual platform for North West CDC to present its performances in FY 2007 and to share with key stakeholders the CDC's future workplans. It is also an avenue for the CDC to collect suggestions and feedback from stakeholders. These ground-up initiatives will be formulated into future plans for the North West community.

This year, the DM took on the theme of a Cafe. Prior to the DM proper, stakeholders were involved in small group discussions on topics based on CDC's three key thrusts; namely Assisting the needy; Bonding the people; and Connecting the community while enjoying a fine cuppa and assortment of treats. Key findings from the discussion were then presented during the DM. About 300 representatives from the grassroots organisations, community and corporate partners attended the event hosted by Dr Teo Ho Pin, Mayor of North West District.

About Session 1:
Facilitating, teaching or coaching can be anxiety provoking as it demand a facilitator, teacher, trainer or coach to understand the team's dynamic in order to manage the group, be understanding, be flexible yet be firm and constantly interacting with the group.

To be an effective facilitator, trainer, teacher or coach it is important to have good interpersonal skills and understand of one's own strength and weakness. Understanding your personality style and emotion is essential to build interaction, extending your influence, connecting with people and enhances facilitating skills.
Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a popular personality type indicator instrument that helps you to identify your personality style, recognize and appreciate your own strengths, and provides perspective on how and why we're all different. This develops awareness for our personality style, which will help to improve our interpersonal skills that will lead to better facilitating, teaching or coaching skills and confidence

Participants will:
• Understand one of the four dichotomy through an activity.
• Understand how personality type can affect us in our work

Session 1 Facilitator:
Mr Yeo Beng Teck has been actively involved in Human Resource Development, training and facilitation for the past 12 years and has extensive experience in conducting training, as well as facilitated workshops in Singapore and various other Asia Pacific countries. His area of expertise include leadership development, team effectiveness, communication skills, conflict management, feedback and coaching.

About Session 2:
Change2Change is an unconventional idea to present big social, environmental and life issues/concerns in small bits to individuals. It is being planned as a sensitization series at workplaces. The objective is to enhance the social well-being index of employees.

In short 10 to 23 minute capsules, each session turns the spotlight on an aspect that impacts an individual and shapes his or her functioning at workplace, home and society. For example, growing oxygen, cooling climate at home, allure of happiness to business of fair trade. These aspects or issues also collectively determine the larger social situation.

At this session, there will be a preview of the Change2Change action and plans with the facilitators in Singapore. After which there will a discussion on two issues to get ideas, thoughts and critical feedback on plotting the roadmap for its roll out!!

Participants will:
• Experience Change2Change first-hand

Session 2 Facilitator:
Change2Change is a project of Issu.E.Rasers, a evolving volunteer group. Jasrriet Mahal is a founding volunteer. Her experience in resource mobilization with a range of non-profit organizations has time and again highlighted the challenges of people mobilization for change. And hence the belief in the need for creatively facilitating small changes that grow big.
